June 25th - Elena

Things I say NO NO to…

1. The fact that it hasn’t hit 70 degrees in a week and a half and that it’s done this weird misting thing (think the big misters at the zoo on high) for the past week. I prefer my rain with a little thunder and lighting. Also I wouldn’t mind seeing the sun for maybe the third time since I’ve moved out here.

2. Our mouse (which I have named Coryan because it’s annoying and won’t do what it’s told). Apparently it’s no longer afraid of me and my sister since it runs around when we are home, when the lights are on and does not just stick to the wall. It also avoids our traps and is ugly.

3. Crazy people who come in the bookstore, sit in a chair, LOOKS like a nice old lady…then proceeds to have a Tourette’s-like attack and mutter fiercely to the ceiling. (Dont’ worry grandma - she was harmeless)

4. Another crazy lady on the bus who announced quite loudly that the doctors told her she had the bird flu. Everyone whips around to look at her. She glances up, realizes she may have just said something that could produce mass bus panic and waves her hand at us saying, “Don’t worry – they said its not contagious.” (Don’t worry grandma, I don’t have bird flu)

5. Our building people decided to replace the concrete in the courtyard that our bedrooms look out on. They decided to take the old cement out by jackhammering it loose at 7:00 in the morning.

6. Got made fun of for my “accent” for the first time. Seems that no one says “sack” here. As in, “Would you like a sack to put your book in?” Nooo..they say bag, as my co-worker Leo laughingly informed me after a woman gave me a crazy look when I asked her if she wanted a sack. Also pop is out of the question – it’s soda here.

7. When I threw a slight temper tantrum about pop/soda, sack/bag Leo told me to keep saying it how I want cuz it’s cute. I think it’s just so he can keep making fun of me. Do I just have a target tattooed to the back of my head?

However, all these slightly pertubring incidents are nullified by one thing…..

I got my library card today!

My life once again feels complete.
