Long overdue update - Elena

Hello all! I'm sorry I have't blogged lately. So far the month of August has been insanely busy for me.

The first week of August was mainly me trying to work two jobs, rearrange the apartment for Joe, get properly trained at Borders and get ready for my friend Corey and his sister Catherine's visit to Boston. Corey and Catherine flew in on the 8th and it was great to see them!

The first day I took them on a tour de Elena - aka I took them to all the places I knew how to get too. It was pretty fun and they got to see a lot of big buildings and parks and such. The next day we went to the Science museum because Corey is a big nerd and an engineer. It was pretty neat to see some of the shows (like the electric show, an Imax show and a Planitarium show) although the exhibits were geared towards young kids. We had all been in college for so long we forget that sometimes things are made for kids. :) It was still a pretty cool place though.

We also went to the Aquarium. It wasn't as impressive as Shedd's Aquarium in Chicago but it was still pretty neat. It was centered around a huge tank that went up at least three stories. In the tank was sharks, turtles, and all kinds of crazy looking fish. You could walk in a circle around it heading up and see all the little exhibits...including a BIG SNAKE! WHY WAS THERE A SNAKE IN AN AQUARIUM?! Needless to say, I completely avoided that glass cage.

These divers were getting ready to go into the big tank to clean it.

We also went on a bus tour that took us to some of the historical sights such as Paul Revere's riding route, battle sights, historical homes and so on. We were easily the youngest people on the bus by 30 years. It was a lot of fun though!

Pics clockwise. 1) Corey ad Catherine walking where some of the first shots were fired. 2) Tory home. 3) Harvard boathouse 4) Louisa May Alcott home! 5) Bridge and meadow where British lost first battle.

Finally we went to Salem for a day. They had some pretty interesting exhibits and one place even had a reenactmet of the trial. Very informative and kinda freaky!

Apparetly we can't escape the Wizard of Oz either!!! All the gift shops there had a ton of WoO stuff.

So after hanging out with Corey and Catherine, Corey and I flew to Phoenix on the 13th to visit our friend Ryan. Ryan got a job with Honeywell in Phoenix and bought a house complete with pool!! My flight out of Boston kept getting delayed due to massive rain in Newark so they finally rerouted me to Philly. I ended up getting into Phoenix around 11pm Phoenix time. My brain thought it was 2am though!

The first day we went tubing down the Salt River. It was so much fun!!! It was great to be in water and to get some sun and see the beautiful scenery. We hung out in Ryan's pool a lot thoughout the week, I cooked a lot, I ate at SONIC (I have missed Sonic!), we grilled steaks and had mashed potato's on Ryan's patio and just had a great time. We met Ryan's friends from Honeywell (who are all crazy!) and also went to a dueling piano bar (very very cool).

Pictures clockwise. 1 and 2 - Boys doing boy band poses in the pool because they are weird. 3) Corey and Austin after our steak dinner 4) Ryan, me and Corey at the dueling piano bar 5) dueling pianos 6) Ryan's pool

So far August has been great. I slipped back into work with no problem so now the big thing I have to look forward to is school starting on September 2nd. Crazy!

Hope all is well with everyone! Miss you all!
